Ivan St Clair is a Director of Treasury Training Services Pty Ltd a business he commenced in 2008 after a brief stint assisting Centro Properties Group as its Acting Chief Financial Officer and 9 years as a Partner and National Leader of Ernst & Young’s treasury advisory business in Australia. Prior to that he was Head of Advisory and Risk Management Services for ANZ Investment Bank.
Ivan has been involved in the finance industry for over 40 years, with a particular focus on Treasury, corporate finance and financial risk management for the last 27 years. He has been running the Understanding Treasury Management course for over 13 years.
Ivan’s key expertise is financial risk management (particularly liquidity, funding, foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity price risk), including the development of policies, procedures, strategies, performance measurement systems and internal control systems. His extensive practical experience and technical expertise have been applied to a range of financial risk management projects including the treasuries of some of Australia’s largest corporations, the hedging and trading operations of many of Australia’s electricity generators and retailers, and the hedging and trading operations of many agri-business entities (including grain, sugar, cotton and beef). Ivan has also sat on a number of financial risk management committees as an independent advisor and also as a Board observer.
Ivan assisted Centro Properties Group as its Acting CFO whilst it successfully secured an extension to its financing facilities. Once the extension was achieved Centro was able to secure the services of a permanent CFO.
Ivan is now focussing on running treasury courses and seminars in Australasia and the Pacific, providing advice on finance and treasury related issues and continues to participate in risk management committees.
Janice Walton is an Associate of Treasury Training Services Pty Ltd who is available to provide treasury advisory and training support to corporations, government based enterprises and financial institutions.
Janice has been involved in the banking and finance industry for over 20 years, with a particular focus on treasury, financial risk management and corporate finance. Janice’s key expertise is financial derivatives particularly as part of financial risk management. Her many years experience in trading, investment and offshore banks encompassed credit risk, liquidity risk, interest rate risk, foreign exchange risk and funding.
She has done extensive work for ANZ Investment Bank’s clients advising on interest rate risk management. Her role included developing and reviewing risk management policies and legal documentation as well as structuring and pricing deals.
Janice was also one of the team leaders in establishing ANZ Investment Bank’s foreign currency option capability. Following the introduction of options to the corporate client base, her work focussed on structuring foreign currency risk management solutions.
Julian is an Associate of Treasury Training Services (TTS), and has extensive experience as a treasury consultant and presenter on treasury training courses. Julian’s expertise lies in managing the key financial risks namely foreign exchange (FX), commodity prices, interest rates, liquidity and credit from both a hedging and trading perspective. This includes the development of policies, procedures, strategies, performance measurement systems and internal control systems.
Julian has advised a variety of Australian Corporate and Government entities on a range of financial and commodity risk issues. Corporations have included the major banks, Australia’s largest agri-business organisation, large mining corporations, energy generators and retailers, manufacturers and many others. Federal and State Government entities include Attorney General (Federal), Treasury Corporation of Victoria, Queensland Investment Corporation and Northern Territory Treasury Corporation.
Prior to TTS Julian was with Ernst & Young’s Financial Risk Management Consulting practice and focused on providing advisory services to clients in respect of their treasury risks. He assisted clients in all aspects of their Treasury function and how this supported and interfaced with the rest of the business.
Basil has had over 25 years experience in the finance industry consisting of some 15 years of treasury and finance experience both within Australia and globally for the BP Group, and 8 years within Ernst and Young’s treasury assurance and advisory business in Australia. Basil has hands-on treasury management experience as Treasurer - BP (Australia) and has been involved with many reviews and internal audits of the treasuries of corporations, banks and government-based enterprises.
During his 8 years at Ernst & Young, Basil was heavily involved in reviewing end-to-end treasury processes including foreign exchange risk management, interest rate risk management, funding and liquidity mangement and hedge accounting. The processes included recording, reporting, revaluing, confirming, settling and accounting. He has developed financial risk management policies, procedures and internal controls for a number of organizations and has assisted organisations in achieving hedge accounting. The policies have addressed liquidity, currency, commodity, interest rate, counterparty credit and operational risks.
In the role of Treasurer at BP (Australia), Basil had responsibility for funding, cash and liquidity management, foreign exchange hedging and strategic interest rate risk management. This role also included management responsibility for the 6 man dealing room.
The range of organizations Basil has assisted includes Australian based organizations with domestic and global operations, exporters and importers, and an Asia based organization with predominantly Asia Pacific operations. Industry coverage has included financial services, retail, packaging, manufacturing, hospitality, publications, utilities, telecommunications, grain trading and resources.
Jo van Hoek is Treasury Training Services IT Manager and has over 20 years IT experience including the design, programming and implementation of systems. In the last 12 years Jo has gained extensive experience in the development and maintenance of treasury related systems including the development of the Treasury Pursuit software and the Treasury Dealing Game software. Jo has also developed interfaces between treasury systems, banking systems and enterprise systems, implemented treasury systems and used Crystal Report Writer to extract reports to meet specific requirements.
Jo has worked in London and Europe for both multi-national corporations and major financial institutions and was the Treasury Information Systems Manager for a Top 20 Australian corporation for 5 years. In recent years she completed a Masters of IT with a major in internet programming and more recently has been developing web-sites and web-based treasury training software.
